Survey: High school students want to attend college, but avoid debt

Forget the dorm rooms and dining halls. College could soon be getting a reality check, according to the latest national survey of high school students.

The College Savings Foundation found a major shift in how high school students are planning for higher education: 69% now expect to live at home — the highest percentage ever.

And 85% say they will work while attending classes — another record high.

The next generation of college students isn’t chasing ivy-covered dreams, either. Community colleges and state schools are the top choices, according to the College Savings Foundation’s 16th annual Youth Survey of 1,000 high school seniors, juniors and sophomores.
